Monuments
a WebQuest
What is a monument?
What do they do?
Today's Questions:
-
What is a monument?
-
What do monuments do/mean/say?
-
Where can we find monuments?
Mount Rushmore
Before we get into creating monuments ourselves, we need to take a look at the ones already here, and figure out what a monument technically is.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a monument as...
“a lasting evidence, reminder, or example of someone or something notable or great.”
Take some time to look at the monuments below, then search online for more monuments and statues around the world. In your sketchbook, make a note about one monument in particular that you find interesting. Draw a sketch of it, and write down its name and where it is located. Then, write 5-8 sentences about the monument- What does this monument means to you? What does this monument represent? Does this monument make you think differently about what it is representing? Feel free to answer these questions with words, drawings, or both. When you are done, take a picture of the page (or pages) and upload them to Google Classroom.
