Who gets a monument?

Who doesn't?

Vietnam Women's Memorial

Today's Questions:

  • Who has monuments?

  • Who does not?

  • Who is missing?

  • Who deserves a monument?

Today we will be searching for people that did great things and made change, but did not get a monument dedicated to them. This is a large topic, so let's narrow down what we are looking for first. Read the following questions to help you start your search ...
  • Decide if you want to find someone who made a change in the past or in the present. There are many people making change and working hard right now that deserve monuments, too.
  • Do you want to find a person who worked and lived in your town? In Pennsylvania? In another place in America? Another country? Pick a location!
  • What groups of people have less monuments dedicated to them? Think back to our first step- what ages/genders/races had the most monuments? Which had the least? Who might you, personally, want to focus on?
Starting to get an idea in mind? Head over to Google and spend some time searching for a specific person or people you think deserve a monument- make sure that they do not already have one!
When you've chosen your person or people, open up your sketchbook and write about who they are, why you believe they deserve a monument, and why you think they don't have one already. Feel free to add drawings to your page, too! When you're done, take a photo and upload it to Google Classroom.
In order to receive full credit for this step, you must...
  1. Search online for a person (or people) that does not have a monument dedicated to them or their work.
  2. Write about them in your sketchbook, including who they are, what they did to deserve a monument in your opinion, and why you think they might not have one already.
  3. Post an image of your page(s) to Google Classroom.
